VTS is a shore based service just like a call center .when ever your ship passes around the area of VTS you have to report to them, Also while exiting the VTS area . VTS is only available where there is a lot of traffic specially near ports ,narrow channel ,rivers etc . VTS also informs you about any wrecks ,fishing traffic ,MOB situations etc
